Opportunities to sit together at a set table with family in the daily rush are scarce, so I think most of us would agree that maintaining such traditions should be treated as a duty. But in order to make tradition enough, its attributes are also important, and the most important and the nicest (perhaps apart from gifts) is a common Christmas Eve dinner, which, both during the consumption and preparation, unites loved ones in the name of the principle that the more the merrier! And finally, an important point – in order for the tradition to continue it should be taken care of by passing it on from generation to generation. And in Greater Poland the culinary customs accompanying this occasion are unique.

During our meeting we will prepare:

1. Almond soup with rice and raisins.
2. Sourdough red borscht – we’ll use a live beet sourdough starter, we’ll also set our own so that it’s ready for Christmas Eve, we’ll prepare a jarred stock that will be the basis of many soups – not just on Christmas Eve.
3. Fish in saffron sauce with noodles.
4. Fried mushrooms with noodles and poppy seeds.
5. Strudel with nuts and apples – made together.
6. The poppy-seed paste we will use to prepare poppy-seeds, but it will also be the basis for poppy-seed cake and other poppy-seed dishes, such as kutia or simple Japanese poppy-seed cake.
