The Babylonians and Assyrians burned frankincense in religious ceremonies, and the ancient Egyptians used frankincense resin for everything from perfumes to skin-soothing ointments.

Frankincense resin is extracted from several species of trees. These are: Boswellia serrata, Boswellia carteri, Boswellia sacra and Boswellia frereana. These trees grow in the Arabian Peninsula, India and North Africa. Resin is extracted from them twice a year. Muslims and Hindus pour hot water over lumps of resin and drink such a beverage, then pour and drink again, as many times, until the resin is completely dissolved.

 

USAGE:

  • rub into your hands after a long, busy day apply to the soles of your feet to induce a feeling of relaxation and balance your mood
  • for massage: combine 5 – 10 drops of essence with 10 ml of base oil such as argan or jojoba and enjoy your own massage oil
  • for bathing: 5 – 7 drops of essence add to a bathtub with water, optimal bath time is 15 minutes
  • aromatherapy: add 5 to 8 drops of oil to water in an aroma fireplace or ultrasonic diffuser
  • used in cosmetics for mature, normal, acne-prone skin care
  • inhalation: add a few drops of oil to hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the rising steam
  • for the manufacture of perfumes
